Kickstart your housing rehab project with
some help from the City! Plus, going once, going twice, sold in support
of the Senior Center. And finally, don’t miss a free health fair
for your four-legged friends. We have these stories and more coming right
up on Iowa City Update. Have you been thinking about remodeling your
home, but not quite sure where to start? The City offers funding assistance that could
help jumpstart your project! The City’s housing rehabilitation programs
provide zero to low interest loans or grants to owners looking to make repairs to their
homes. Our Neighborhood Services staff can assist
with inspections, specifying work plans and obtaining bids from contractors. There are a variety of projects eligible for
funding, including improvements to energy efficiency, accessibility, and general home
repairs. To see what type of funding you might qualify
for and to view a list of the projects head to icgov.org/HousingRehab. There you can also find an application form and contact information if you have any questions about the process. We’ve got a win-win situation for you: buy
local art and support a good cause. Art is Ageless is a fundraising auction for
the Iowa City Senior Center. The work was donated by Linda Brown and the
late John “Big John” Birkbeck. The art is already on display at the Center,
so you can swing by to check it out in advance and put in a pre-bid on your favorite pieces. The silent auction portion takes place this
Friday evening from 6:30 – 8:30. Come enjoy live entertainment, a dessert bar,
and complementary beer and cider samples. All proceeds from the event will benefit the
Center’s operational budget. Come out to the Iowa City Farmers Market to
support our young entrepreneurs. Kids Market will run from nine to noon, featuring
homegrown and handmade goods. See what creative items these future vendors
have to offer, while also enjoying the rest of the market as well. The Farmers Market is held at the Chauncey
Swan Parking Ramp every Wednesday evening and Saturday morning through October. Make your pets health a priority by attending
this free event. The Doggie Health Fair will be held from noon
to three this Sunday at the Thornberry Off-Leash Dog Park. Vendors will be on-hand to provide helpful
information about their services and products. As a bonus, the first 100 dogs will get a
complimentary goodie bag filled with fun stuff. Have a great week, everybody! We’ll see you next time on Iowa City Update.
