Hey guys it’s Ro! Welcome to another Nerdy
Nummies! I got so many requests from you guys to make something from the video game Overwatch.
And I’m super excited because I am a huge fan of Blizzard and all Blizzard video games, and Overwatch is no exception! I love this game, I even dressed up a little bit to look like one of my favorite
characters from the game. I love Pharah, she’s my favorite to play. My blue power armor is
at the dry cleaners, so I just wore this top because… Fashion! When you’re playing
the game, there’s this cute little toy you can find, it’s name is Pachimari, and it’s
a turnip octopus. And I got little plushies of them, they’re so cute. We’re gonna
be making Pachimari Mini Cupcakes, let’s get started! For this recipe I’m going to
incorporate ingredients like turnips and onions, but the cupcake is still gonna be a sweet
cupcake. The things you will need will be: 1-1/2 cup of cake flour, 3/4 cup sugar, 3 eggs,
1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1/4 cup of honey, 1/2 a cup plus 2 tablespoons of vegetable
oil, I’ve got them separate because we’re gonna add them at different times, and the
same goes for the butter. 1 stick of butter, plus 2 tablespoons. An onion, we’re only
gonna be using 1/2, 2 medium sized turnips, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 3/4 teaspoon
of baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt. Now let’s put it all together! The
first thing that we’re gonna do is cut our onion, in front of me I’ve got a cutting
board, a sharp cutting knife. You’re gonna take your onion and we’re gonna cut off
the top and the bottom. Then we’re gonna cut it in 1/2. Like I said before, we’re
just gonna be using 1/2 of our onion so I am gonna put this in a little Zip-Loc baggie
and save it in the fridge. Then I’m gonna peel off the skin, and this is where I do my best not to cry! But if you guys see me cry know that I’m OK, it’s just
this onion! It’s not because I didn’t get play of the game! I’m gonna hold on
to the back, be careful of your fingers, and we’re just gonna cut thin slices. Now you’re
gonna grab your turnips, the first thing that we’re going to do this with these is you’re
going to peel them, I’ve got a little vegetable peeler here and you’re just gonna peel it
the same way that you would a potato, very similar, only prettier! He’s purple! Our
turnips are peeled and now we’re gonna cut them up into chunks. Just make sure that when
you’re cutting them up, they don’t need to be perfect, but you want them to be in
similar size, so that they’ll cook at the same rate. So I’m just gonna, oh, whoa whoa!
He’s a wily one! You’re a strong little turnip! Then we’re just gonna turn our turnip
and I’m just gonna cut 3 long lines. And slice the other way to make little cubes.
Then we’re gonna do this to the rest of our turnips. All of our turnips are chopped
up and now they’re ready to bake. In front of me I’ve just got a baking sheet, lined with
a piece of parchment paper, so you’re gonna place all of your turnips onto the parchment
paper. Drizzle them with the 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, and then they’re ready
to bake! Now turn-up, a-hah-hah-hah-hah-hah-hah! Your heat in the oven to 400 degrees and we’re
gonna bake these for about 30-40 minutes. While our turnips are baking we are gonna
take our onions, brown sugar and the 2 tablespoons of butter over to the stove. Turn-up the heat
on your stove to medium, then add the butter into a medium sized pan and let it completely
melt. Add all of the brown sugar and onions. Stir until the onions are completely coated.
Let the options cook until they are soft and golden brown, this takes about 20-30 minutes,
be sure to stir occasionally. Turn off your heat and take your onions back to the baking
station. Alright guys, we got a lot going on here, out turnips are fresh out of the
oven, our onions are all caramelized, they’re still hot, they’re ready to go. Now we’re
gonna add all of these ingredients, our turnips, our caramelized onions, the rest of the oil
and the honey into a food processor, and we’re gonna blend it up until it becomes a smooth
paste. Now I’m gonna pour it into a bowl and set it off to the side. Next, in a medium sized
bowl we are gonna cream together our 1 stick of butter and sugar. Mix together until it’s
light and fluffy. Now we’re gonna be adding our eggs, we’re gonna be adding them one
at a time, crack one egg. Add the whole egg, mix it up, and then add the second egg, mix
it up, and then the third egg, mix it up! Both of our mixtures are ready and now we’re
gonna add our vegetable puree, all of it, into our big bowl, then mix together with
a hand mixer for 1-2 minutes on a high speed. You’re gonna mix together until it’s well
combined. Once both of your mixtures are well combined we’re going to add the rest of
our dry ingredients. We’re gonna add them all at once and instead of using a hand mixer,
I’m just gonna be folding gently with a spatula. You don’t need to be super careful, we just
don’t want to over-mix. The batter is ready to bake and over here I’ve got a bunch of
mini cupcake trays, lined with little mini cupcake liners. I’m making mini cupcakes,
but if you want to make regular sized cupcakes, this recipe makes 2 dozen regular cupcakes
or 4 dozen mini cupcakes. Our mini cupcakes are ready to bake so turn-up your heat in
the oven to 350 degrees and we’re gonna bake these for about 20-22 minutes. While
our mini cupcakes are baking, we are going to decorate and make our little Pachimari faces. The things
you will need will be: Royal icing, I have a dark pink, a light pink and a black royal
icing, I’ve put them into plastic baggies with number 1 tips at the end for a little
bit more control to decorate. Then over here I’ve just got a cutting board lined with
a piece of wax paper, I’ve taped it down on top, and some white candy melts. You can
just use the melt and flip it upside down, use the flat side to decorate the face. But
I’m gonna heat these up in the microwave and re-pipe them so they’re nice and smooth,
I really want that smooth finish. Just microwaved my candy melts, put them into a plastic baggie
with a a little tip at the end for a little bit more control, and now I’m just gonna
put little dollops on top of my piece of wax paper, so they’re nice and smooth. Once
you’ve piped some little dollops, I’m just gonna tap this on the counter to flatten
it out. I let the candy melts sit for just a few minutes to harden, you want to wait
until they’re dry, just tap them on the top, they’re set, they’re ready! Now we’re
gonna add the details of Pachimari’s face using our royal icing. We’re gonna start
with the black royal icing and we’re gonna pipe 2 eyeballs, just 2 little dollops. We’ve
piped all of the eyes, and now we’re going to pipe the mouth. The mouth is kind of shield
shaped, I like to make it in 2 steps. The first step is just starting on a side, and
you’re gonna swoop up to the middle, and then swoop again, and then connect it on the
bottom. Onto the dark pink royal icing, we’re gonna use this color to fill in the mouth.
The final step to decorate our little faces is we’re gonna pipe 2 little pink cheeks
using the light pink royal icing. Again, I’ve got a number 1 tip at the end, so that you’ll
get a really cute small circle. You’re just gonna make 2 on each side of the smile. I
put our little candy faces off to the side, just for a minute while we are going to frost
and assemble. Our mini cupcakes are fresh out of the oven, give them plenty of time
to cool, you don’t want to frost them while they are still hot because it will melt the
frosting. Over here we have buttercream frosting, I’ve dyed this one green and this one off-white,
because the turnip body is off-white and then the face is like a bright white. I’ve
just put them into plastic baggies and put tips at the end for a little bit more control.
I’m gonna start icing with our green frosting, I’ve got a number 12 tip at the
end. I’m gonna first pipe around the edge of the cupcake, and then fill it in. Then
I’m gonna pipe the 4 tentacles, they kind of look like leaves too, so I like to call
them tentacle-leaves! Pipe up and then down and then stop adding pressure and pull up,
so it looks like a little leg. Do that 3 more times, all the way around. Then I’m using
a toothpick to give it a little bit more lift, just a little bit more shape, this part is
totally optional, you can just leave it like this if you’d like. We’re so close you
guys! Now we are gonna pipe some turnips, right on top! I’m just gonna pipe a base
at the bottom, all the way around, then I’m gonna come back to the middle, put a bunch
of pressure, and then ease up. You want to make them look as turnip-y as possible. Then
I’m gonna do this to the rest of my cupcakes. I’m so excited, it’s the final decoration
step, we are now going to attach our little candy face to the front of our turnip! So
pick your favorite front side, and then stick ‘em on there. Look, so cute! Then we’re
gonna do this to the rest of our cupcakes, eye! Ta-da! Here are the Pachimari Mini Cupcakes
that we made today! A big thank you to you guys for suggesting something from the video
game Overwatch! Let me know in the comments down below if you have a favorite character,
I like to play as Pharah, who do you like to play as? Also, I’ll be taking lots of
picturess and posting the recipe on RosannaPansino.com, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. And I’m
so excited because this recipe is a sweet cupcake recipe, but we used savory ingredients,
turnip and caramelized onion, so it is a turnip caramelized onion sweet cupcake! Om-nom-nom!
It tastes so good, ahhhh! And, if you guys make these little treats or any other Overwatch
themed treats, please take a picture and send it to me, I love seeing your baking creations,
