EARLIER THIS MORNING A REPRESENTATIVE WITH CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS SAID THEY LEFT THE NEGOTIATIONS LAST NIGHT ON THOSE KEY REMAINING ISSUES, SHE SAID SHE WENT ON TO SAY THE GOAL IS TO GET KIDS BACK IN SCHOOL MONDAY. BUT THEN SHE SAID AFTER, THERE WAS WHAT SHE CALLED A BREACH OF TRUST BY THE UNION THAT GIVES THE SCHOOL BOARD SERIOUS CONCERNS. I ASKED THE UNION PRESIDENT ABOUT THE ALLEGED BREACH. I DON’T KNOW, AND I’M NOT SURE WHAT THAT IS REFERRING TO. I WOULD JUST SAY, WE ARE AT A SENSITIVE PART OF THE NEGOTIATIONS, I’VE BEEN THROUGH THIS BEFORE, IT’S NOT UNCOMMON WHEN NEGOTIATIONS ARE AT THIS STAGE FOR NERVES TO GET FRAYED, EMOTIONS HIGH. SO FAR I HAVE RECEIVED NO FURTHER CLARIFICATION FROM THE CITY OR THE UNION DESPITE REPEATED CALLS AND EMAILS. IN THE MEANTIME, TEACHERS WERE BACK AT IT BRIGHT AND EARLY THIS MORNING, ON TOP OF THE PRESSURE TO GET STUDENTS BACK TO CLASS, THE DEADLINE FOR COLLEGE APPLICATIONS AROUND THE CORNER, THE STUDENT ATHLETE MISSING OUT ON STATE FINALS, ANOTHER ADDED PRESSURE HERE IS THE ISSUE OF HEALTHCARE.
